Where Do Christian Business Leaders Find Authentic Community?
Isolation at the Peak
It is a well-known axiom in leadership that it gets lonely at the top. But for the Christian entrepreneur, that loneliness carries a distinct weight.
At the office, you must remain strong, decisive, and steady for your team. At home, you want to be present, loving, and supportive for your wife and children. At church, people often view you as the successful business owner who can sponsor events or serve on the financial committee.
Where does a male founder go when he is exhausted, wrestling with doubt, or carrying business stress he cannot share with his staff? Without a safe, high-trust circle of peers, many Christian men default to isolation, which is a dangerous state that exposes them to burnout, moral failure, and depression. Finding authentic community isn’t a luxury for male leaders; it is a vital spiritual safeguard.
The Three Layers of Friendship
To build a sustainable social life, every leader must understand that not all friendships serve the same purpose. Scripture shows Jesus surrounded Himself with concentric circles of community: the crowd, the seventy, the twelve, and the three (Peter, James, and John).
- The Network (Broad Peers): Industry acquaintances, local chamber members, or Sunday school classmates. Good for light fellowship and casual connection, but not built for deep vulnerability.
- The Peer Group (Mastermind/Small Group): 8 Christian business owners who meet regularly to discuss business, leadership, faith, and family. The FORGE is this exact type of group of men.
- The Inner Circle (The 2 AM Friends): Two few godly men who know your darkest struggles, spiritual battles, and true financial reality. These are the men you can call at 2:00 AM in a crisis and they will be there.
What to Look For in a Leader’s Mastermind
If you are seeking a Christian peer group, ensure it possesses three essential elements:
- Shared Stakes: Look for men who understand the weight of payroll, risk, and marketplace leadership. Shared context eliminates the need to constantly explain your reality.
- Spiritual Alignment: Ensure the group values biblical truth above secular hustle culture. The goal isn’t just revenue growth; it’s Christlikeness.
- Absolute Confidentiality: High-trust environments require non-negotiable discretion. What is shared in the room must stay in the room.
Take the Initiative
Many Christian entrepreneurs wait years for the “perfect group” to find them and invite them in. But that is not an effective way to have this need met. It won’t be an accident when you connect with your fellow entrepreneurs, it will only happen when you intentionally make it happen.
This is one reason we created The FORGE here. After seeing so many men walking this walk alone, struggling in isolation at the top, we made the intentional choice to create the kind of authentic community that we know they need. If you don’t have a group of men who have your back, you need to either take the initiative and create that group or take the initiative to join us in what we have already built.
Isolation Is a Target
Proverbs 18:1 warns, “Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment.” The enemy loves an isolated leader because an isolated leader is easy to defeat. Step out from behind the facade of perfection, pursue real brotherhood, and surround yourself with men who will fight alongside you.
